The Vegetarian Society Awards 2005

The evening of Thursday 27th October was awash with glitz, glamour and a certain quantity of vegetarian wine, when the fifth Vegetarian Society Awards were presented aboard the historic tea clipper Cutty Sark.

Celebrations were led by television presenter and Vegetarian Society Patron, Wendy Turner Webster, who congratulated the winning companies, and runners-up, on their commitment to serve vegetarians with quality, choice and above all, integrity.

Lord Stratford (the former MP Tony Banks), meanwhile, handed out the wooden spoon to Bassett’s Jelly Babies, presenting the Imperfect World Award to this children’s favourite for it’s recipe which includes gelatine made from the skin and bones of slaughtered cows and pigs.

But the focus of the evening was on the ever-increasing quality and innovation across the vegetarian marketplace – something our sponsors, the Co-operative Bank, and all our guests felt was well worth pushing the boat out for!

The Vegetarian Society Awards 2005 are sponsored by The Co-operative Bank and Officially Supported by Vegetarian and Vegan Matchmakers. Wine was kindly donated by Vintage Roots.
