How it all started
The Vegetarian Society Awards began in 2001. The aim of the Awards is
to highlight to the nation those companies and services which strive
to improve the provision for the UK's 3 million vegetarians. The first
Award ceremony took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in central London
and subsequent ceremonies have since been held at The Warldorf Hotel,
as well as at the HQ of The Magic Circle, also in central London. The
first two years were glitzy affairs, open to our members and the general
public, which also incorporated fundraising elements to support the educational
work of the Society. These activities included a celebrity charity auction,
and a raffle with prizes donated by vegetarian-friendly companies.
In 2003 the Awards were an entirely corporate affair and by invite only,
as is the case in 2004. In 2006, we decided to change the format, and
spread out the Awards categories over the year. This new format continued
in 2007, and we added some novel categories. |
