magazine cover

Since 1848 The Vegetarian Society has been dedicated to promoting vegetarianism as a healthier option for people, for animals, and for the world in which we live. With our help, vegetarianism has grown from a small group of humanitarian individuals to become an accepted way of life for over 3 million people.

The role of the Society is to educate, to inform and to campaign for a more humane way of life. Every week we answer hundreds of queries by letter and telephone on every aspect of vegetarianism. TV & radio, newspapers and magazines, adults, children, schools, hospitals, restaurants, hotels - they all turn to The Vegetarian Society for expert advice and information.

Reader Profile

Vegetarians are more likely to be female, age group 18-35, from the ABC1 socio-economic groups. This corresponds with results from Realeat and Bradford University and means that our readers are affluent "reformers" who are willing to pay more for your specialist products.

Ethical issues and concern for animal welfare emerged as the main reasons for becoming vegetarian, particularly amongst the younger readers. Concern over a healthier diet is also a growing influence.
