A: Not at all. Associate membership is available for those who are not vegetarian, either because they are still thinking about it, or are simply interested in vegetarian food. The prices and benefits are the same, but you will not have voting rights at the Annual General Meeting. If you are thinking about going veggie, joining the Vegetarian Society would be an excellent way to ensure that advice and support would always be at hand.
A: As a registered UK charity, we rely on our members to fund all of our work, including informing the public about vegetarian issues such as the benefits for the environment and animal welfare, as well as health; working with professional caterers in schools, hospitals, care homes; and taking our educational work into the classroom to raise awareness of all the reasons people may choose to go vegetarian or vegan.
As a member, your support is more than just financial, as you are the ambassadors for vegetarianism, and help us to spread the word about what a difference cutting meat out of our diets makes. A: Yes. A family membership of £26 annually is a great cost-effective way of including up to four people from the same family on the same membership. You can add additional members to the same family membership for an added cost of £6.50 each, which still works out much cheaper than the standard adult rate.
A: No, you can be a member no matter where in the world you live. Membership for people living overseas is available and entitles you to the same benefits as members in the UK. Please make sure you state that you live overseas when joining and note that although the membership subscriptions cost the same we do have to charge extra to help cover our postage costs - £7 for Europe and £10 for the rest of the world.
A: Yes and we also offer quarterly payments too. You can easily set up a monthly or quarterly Direct Debit online or by phoning the Membership Team on 0161 925 2000. This allows you to spread the cost of your membership and helps us save on time and administration costs, meaning more of your money goes directly to helping our work. It also means you don’t have to worry about renewing your membership every year.
Please note: monthly Direct Debits cannot be set up for Team Veggie or Twiggy Club.
A: Absolutely! Our Twiggy (10 years and younger) and Team Veggie (11-15) youth clubs are a great way for young veggies to feel part of a group and get information that is relevant to their age and lifestyle. Included with youth club memberships are exclusive goodies, newsletters, recipe booklets and personal membership cards which are not available within family memberships. Youth club membership costs just £10 per year and more information can be found here. If you’re a member you can purchase membership for one of the youth clubs for just £7.50.
A: Because the majority of memberships for the junior clubs are bought by someone other than the child, you will need to go to the Gift Membership page. This is so you are able to enter the child’s details as well as your own.
A: Please go to the Gift Membership page. This is so you are able to enter the recipient’s details as well as your own. You’ll also have the opportunity to specify when you want the membership pack to be delivered and if you wish it to be sent to you or the recipient. You also get the option of adding your own message to put in a gift card to the recipient at no extra cost.
A: Yes please! By getting in touch we can make sure your membership and payments have been correctly amended if you pay by Direct Debit. Whatever your payment method it is very useful for us to know if there are any particular reasons for your cancellation to help us improve our service.
A: The easiest way to renew is through our website. If you have already registered on the site simply log in and follow the prompts to renew your membership. If you have not yet registered you can sign up here – www.vegsoc.org/signup - and once your registration is processed you will be able to renew by signing in as detailed above. Alternatively, just give us a call on 0161 925 2000 and you can renew over the phone. If you still have the reminder letter we sent you simply return this to us with a cheque or your credit/debit card details.
If your membership expired more than two months ago you will not be able to renew on the website. Please just join again and we’ll take care of the rest.
Currently, if you choose to renew your membership by setting up a new Direct Debit you get three months free membership for the first year you pay by Direct Debit.
A: You can find all this information on the website in the Discounts Directory, which is continually being updated. Please note you need to log in to access this special members’ only area, so if you haven’t yet registered you will need to do so, which is quick and easy. Once you’ve registered, simply log-in and go to: Online Community, Your Content, Members’ discount list. If you need a printed copy, please contact the Membership Team on 0161 925 2000.
A: We are always working to increase the number of discounts that our members can enjoy. If there is a specific establishment or online retailer that you would like to see in our Members’ Discount scheme you can simply download and print this letter to drop off next time you visit. The letter tells them about the scheme and suggests that they get involved – all they need to do is get in touch with us. Online retailers can be contacted through email instead.
A: First of all, go back and double check that you have read each section correctly. There may have been a box left un-ticked or you may have forgotten to submit your details at the final stage. If you are already a member and are trying to renew, you will need to log-in to the website or register before trying to renew through your profile. Please allow up to two working days for us to process your registration. You will receive an email to confirm this has been done. If this still does not work or you are concerned in any way, please get in touch with the Membership Department by calling 0161 925 2000 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
A: To view your members-only documents you will first have to register to use the website. You can do this by heading to the Homepage or going straight to www.vegsoc.org/signup. Once your registration is authorised (please allow up to two working days) or if you are already registered, you will need to sign-in first. From here, go to the Online Community tab across the top of the site, followed by Your Content, where the documents can be accessed.

A: No, you can be both but if you are a registered user of the website this does not make you a member of the Vegetarian Society. We ask people to ‘register’ on our website so that you can sign in to access certain features. This is not the same as being a member of the Vegetarian Society. Members pay for their membership and in return are given access to even more areas of the site and many other member benefits.
You are free to make use of the website without being a member, however, as a charity we rely heavily on our members’ support and this website would not exist without them. If you find the information we provide helpful please consider joining. Similarly, if you are already a member you will need to ‘register’ on the website to gain access to your members-only content.
A: Once you have registered on the website we need time to process your registration. We will be as quick as possible, but this can only be done during office hours so please allow up to two working days to process your registration. Once your registration is processed you will receive a confirmation email acknowledging that you now have access to the website.
A: If you have forgotten your username or password for the website please use the link on the home page – ‘Forgotten password or username’, please do not register again. You will automatically be sent your username or password. If you experience any difficulties using the forgotten username or password facility please email firstname.lastname@example.org. Please provide as much detail as you can so we may assist with your enquiry.
A: The Vegetarian Society is a charity which receives no government funding, and so we rely significantly on our supporters to fund the work that we do. Most donations support our work in a collective sense, but if you wish to support a specific area, such as our education work in schools, or training caterers in care homes, then we are happy to discuss this. A: Leaving a legacy to the Vegetarian Society is an excellent way of ensuring your beliefs and values live on. To find out more, we would first of all recommend reading our Guide to Leaving a Charitable Legacy leaflet which you can download. If you would like further information or would just like a chat about leaving a gift in your will we would be very happy to discuss this with you – just get in touch by calling 0161 925 2000 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Please be aware that legally we cannot provide you with specific advice regarding your Will, or recommend a solicitor to you. We can, however, provide you with a list of solicitors in your area that specialise in Will-writing, and discuss with you what it would mean for you to leave the Vegetarian Society a charitable legacy.
A: Making a regular donation is easy as this can now be done by setting up a Direct Debit on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis. Once you have decided how much and how often you want to donate you can set up your Direct Debit securely via our website or call us and we will set it up for you over the phone. You can even do this when renewing your membership by rounding up with a donation. We rely on membership subscriptions and donations to fund our work, so please do consider supporting us through regular giving.

Fundraising and Getting Involved
A: Yes, we are always looking for volunteers to help with our work and we would love you to get involved. We frequently need volunteers to help us with ‘behind the scenes’ tasks like envelope stuffing and administration, and we also rely on the help of volunteers at events like Meat Free in Manchester in May. In addition, you can volunteer as a ‘Speaker’ to give talks in schools, take part in case studies or even become a Trustee.

A: If you would like to fundraise on our behalf this is also another fun and varied way to get involved. Fundraising is not hard and we are here to help you every step of the way. You might want to get sponsorship for an activity you’re doing, such as running a marathon. Or you could collect donations for a bake-off. Visit the Raise Funds page to get some ideas.
