Groups
also
provide support for local vegetarians, compile local vegetarian guides
and newsletters, arrange educational meetings, answer enquiries from
the public, recruit new members for the Society and raise funds vital
for our campaigning work. However, it's not all hard work! Most also
find time to put on some social events like meals out, rambles and
Christmas parties.
On your
own? Information Centres
operate like groups, but
with only one or two people. They may have been set up by people
hoping to start
a group eventually, or they may be run by people who are interested
in promoting vegetarianism but who prefer to work alone or with
just a few friends. Information Centres don't, as a rule, put
on social
events or arrange regular meetings, but many would be very glad
of some help with campaigning activities or would be interested
in hearing
from people who'd like the information centre to grow into a group.
Youth Contacts
are doing
similar things among their contemporaries. Some are running groups
and some are working alone.
Student
Contacts
Existing college or university vegetarian groups are welcome
to affiliate - fill in the form for
information.
However, there is also
a less formal support programme for college/university vegetarian
groups, please fill in the form if
you are interested in being involved. Support
We support our official local contacts with a regular newsletter, information
sheets, an exclusive email discussion list, supplies of leaflets, access
to our information services, publicity on our website and in our magazine,
and occasional training days - amongst other things! Fill in the starter
pack request form to find out more.
Your help can make a difference!
Our groups urgently need active people who care about animals, human
health and the environment, and who want to help spread the message.
Your help can make a great difference to local campaigns, even if you
can only spare a few hours a month, or a day or two for seasonal campaigns.
If you can spare some time to
help your local network contact, please use the contacts
lists to find your nearest group or information centre.
We also need more affiliated
groups and information centres in many parts of the country.
If there is no group or contact
in your area,
you might be interested in starting
up a Group or Information Centre yourself, please fill
in the form for a Start Up Pack. (but
please check the contacts lists first!)
Please note that this is for
UK residents only, and you will need to be a Veg Soc member and over
18 in order to become an official Local Contact.
If you don't wish to start a group yourself, but would like to be involved
if a new group does get going in your area, fill in the Link
Up List form.
Existing
vegetarian/vegan groups
in the UK are welcome to affiliate to
The Vegetarian Society and get an entry in our online directory,
please fill in the form for
information.
