from Marmite

Happily there's a mid-ground between soaking your pulses and chomping on your chips. If you're in a hurry or want a nutritious snack you just need a few basic ingredients and a splash of imagination!

Pitta bread is versatile and can be warmed and stuffed with any grated salad vegetables, then add some soya/free-range egg mayonnaise or a little tahini. Pittas can also be used as a pizza base topped with tomato, black olives, mozzarella and herbs.

Baked potatoes are another nutritious snack and can be topped with houmous (chick pea spread), a bean salad, vegetable chilli, baked beans, vegetable curry or mushroom sauce.

One essential no vegetarian storecupboard should be without is MARMITE Yeast Extract. Mixed with peanut butter on Granary toast or on a sandwich it makes a healthy and tasty snack. A good source of B vitamins, in particular B12 it is also a great standby when cooking.
