a tribute to Linda McCartney

National Vegetarian Week 1998 will de dedicated in tribute to Linda McCartney.

Paul and Linda McCartney have been supporters of The Vegetarian Society for many years and became Patrons in 1995. The week will be in recognition of Linda McCartney's tremendous dedication to vegetarianism and the influence she has had on the vegetarian movement. Above all, the week will be a celebration of a diet that Linda helped bring into the mainstream. National Vegetarian Week will be encouraging everyone to Go Veggie and taste the future of food.

"National Vegetarian Week will reflect Linda McCartney's approach to changing peoples' perceptions of vegetarianism. It will be a positive celebration of all that is great about being veggie and a chance to taste fantastic vegetarian food. More than any other individual in living memory, Linda McCartney changed the image of vegetarianism, bringing vegetarian food into the supermarket and developing veggie products that were enjoyed by vegetarians and meat eaters alike. Her passion for vegetarianism and her desire to create a world that is kinder to animals and the environment, will remain an inspiration to us all" said Chris Dessent, Head of Public Affairs for The Vegetarian Society.

Linda and Paul McCartney have been involved with The Society's work for many years, including previous National Vegetarian Week celebrations. This year as part of the tribute to Linda McCartney, echoing the words of Paul McCartney that Linda's last wish would be for people to 'Go Veggie', The Vegetarian Society are offering a special 'Go Veggie' starter pack. The pack contains all the information needed to get you started, including scrumptious starter recipes and the facts behind why vegetarianism makes sense. The pack will be available throughout June. Please send a stamped addressed envelope with two second class stamps.

Plans for a long standing tribute to the work of Linda McCartney will announced in July.
