Up, up and away - veggies climb Britain’s highest mountain
Veggie muscle - we need you! The Vegetarian Society has launched an appeal to find as many fit and active vegetarians as possible, to climb Britain’s highest mountain. On the weekend of October 1st 1999 a group of walkers will be proving that they are just as tough as any meat-eaters by taking a stroll up Ben Nevis, a mere 4,408ft (1344metres).
The Society is looking for 200 volunteers to take part in a sponsored ascent of Ben Nevis. The event has been organised to raise vital funds for the Society.
All that is needed to take part in the Ben Nevis weekend is a pair of walking boots, warm clothes and a sense of humour. As part of the sponsorship deal the organisers will supply instructors, specialist equipment, transport, insurance, 3* accommodation and delicious vegetarian food.
The footpath to the top of Ben Nevis is approximately four and a half miles in length and the walk itself will take around 8 hours there and back. Organised by UK Outdoor Pursuits, the event will be well supervised and once back from The Ben, the weekend culminates in an after climb party, where no doubt a few drams will be consumed.
Anyone interested in taking part in the event please email Gary Carr at The Vegetarian Society for a Ben Nevis Ascent pack on claire@vegsoc.org.
