Help Gerty the bionic
veggie dog raise £1,000

PRESS RELEASE
20 August 1999

Calling all dog lovers, Gerty the bionic veggie dog needs your support! Fuelled on Happidog vegetarian dog food, Gerty will be taking the lead in The Vegetarian Society's sponsored ascent of Ben Nevis, a 4408ft climb. The Ben Nevis Challenge, a four-mile round trip up Great Briatain's highest mountain, takes place over the weekend of October 1st. The ascent aims to raise vital funds for the Society's educational programme.

Our four-legged friend would welcome any donations or sponsorship to spur her on. If you would like to help Gerty by sponsoring her then please call 0161 925 2000 to make a donation. Donations can be made by cheque or credit card, (cheques made payable to The Vegetarian Society and sent to Parkdale, Dunham road, Altrincham, Cheshire, WA14 4QG). Gerty's owner Maureen, a member of staff at The Vegetarian Society, hopes to raise over £1,000 for The Society.

Gerty and Maureen have been in intensive training for the challenge. Gerty, a Jack Russell/Lakeland Hound cross, was originally from an RSPCA home. She is almost four years old.

Maureen said "Gerty really is a bionic dog, she is always straining at the lead and I never seem to be able to wear her out. She will really enjoy this challenge, I just hope I can keep up!"

The Vegetarian Society is also looking for willing human volunteers to take part in the challenge and help to raise funds. If you are interested in taking part, please call 0161 925 2000 to request your 'Ben Nevis Challenge' fundraisers pack.

The vegetarian Society would like to thank Happidog vegetarian dog food for supporting Gerty's Ben Nevis Challenge.

The Vegetarian Society exists to promote and provide information on vegetarianism. The Society runs the widely trusted symbol, the Cordon Vert Cookery School, a membership scheme and publishes 'The Vegetarian' magazine quarterly. The Vegetarian Society is a registered charity dedicated to promoting a diet that is good for animals, people and the environment.
