The Vegetarian Society, with the help of Radio 1 DJ Lard and a giant piece of cutlery, is encouraging the UK to Break-out and enjoy veggie food for a week. National Vegetarian Week, organised by The Vegetarian Society, aims to prove that when it comes to food, eating veggie is the healthiest, most compassionate planet friendly choice available. The Society's giant fork, created by vegetarian sculpture Rob Ward, will be touring around the country during National Vegetarian Week before arriving a 'Vegfest', the UK's only vegetarian food and lifestyle festival on June 19th in Manchester. DJ Lard (Mark Riley), gave his backing to the campaign and said "Being a vegetarian for most of my adult life I can furnish all carnivores with this simple yet rewarding rule of thumb - don't eat anything with a face. Confusingly this does include worms, which don't have a face, but not potatoes which while not having a face, do have eyes!... where was I?" Chris Dessent, Head of Public Affairs for The Vegetarian Society said 'It is easy to become locked into one way of eating. We hope that National Vegetarian Week will encourage as many people as possible to 'Break-Out' of eating meat. There has never been a better time to take a new look at what you put on the end of your fork'.
