NATIONAL VEGETARIAN WEEK 1999 - 14TH-20TH JUNE
Watch out world, National Vegetarian Week 1999 is taking place from the 14th to the 20th of June 1999. This year, the week will celebrate international vegetarian cuisine and highlight the global importance of a vegetarian diet. Throughout the week a number of public events, including a host of mega-veggie barbecues, will be sizzling around the country and proving that, for veggies, Summer time is still barbee time!
The week will culminate in 'Vegfest', a vegetarian food and lifestyle festival taking place at the Castlefield Events Arena, Liverpool Road, Manchester, on the 19th June. This family event will include music, stalls, veggie info, great food, entertainment, kids stuff and, of course, the compulsory dancing fruit and veg!
National Vegetarian Week is organised and co-ordinated by The Vegetarian Society. It aims to raise awareness of how compassionate, planet-friendly, healthy and, above all, fun vegetarianism can be. The week will be involving supermarkets, health food stores, schools, fitness centres and caterers across the country.
'Vegfest' is a free festival for all the ages. Past festivals have featured a record-breaking 30 tonne salad, cookery demonstrations, veggie strong men, footballing vegetables and plenty of delicious vegetarian food. This year the event will focus on the weeks' global theme and will be a feast of international flavours, sights and sounds.
The Vegetarian Society exists to promote and provide information on vegetarianism. The Society runs the widely trusted labelling scheme, The Cordon Vert Cookery chool, a membership scheme and publishes 'The Vegetarian' magazine quarterly. the Vegetarian Society is a registered charity dedicated to promoting a diet that is good for animals. people and the environment.
