60ft veggie message
lights up House of Commons

National Vegetarian Week
JUNE 14th-20th 1999

PRESS RELEASE
13 June 1999

The Vegetarian Society is inviting every household in the country to enjoy veggie food in National Vegetarian Week, starting with the most famous house in England.

The House of Commons will be lit up with a 60ft projection featuring the Society's 'Break-out' giant fork image, and the line 'Enjoy veggie food in your house. 14th - 20th June.' The projection will appear on the gable end of the building and will serve to launch the healthiest, most compassionate, planet friendly week of the year. PHOTOGRAPHY WILL BE AVAILABLE ON REQUEST. For on-line images SEE BELOW.

"You can break-out of eating meat wherever you are. We want every house in the country to give going veggie a try. The House of Commons is the people's house and we hope the residents will take on board our message and enjoy veggie food for a week. With an increasing number of vegetarian politicians and supporters, a meat-free Commons is in sight" said Chris Dessent, Head of Public Affairs for The Vegetarian Society.

The Society has approached the House of Commons catering department and sent National Vegetarian Week catering and recipe packs to encourage them to take up the challenge.

A free 'Break-out Veggie Starter Pack' is available on request from the Society, complete with recipe booklet, top tips on going veggie and all the information needed to enjoy veggie food in your house. Please call 0161 925 2000 to request a pack.

Thank you to the Linda McCartney food brand, sponsors of National Vegetarian Week.

For more information or photography of the projection, please call the press office on 0161 925 2000.
