October 2000 The Vegetarian Society is delighted to announce the launch of its new video Vegetarian Nutrition, aimed at secondary school students and their teachers, which has the support of vegan musician Moby. Vegetarian Nutrition offers a lively introduction to vegetarian issues. Designed specifically with Food Technology students in mind, the film focuses on nutrition, food preparation and recipe suggestions. The soundtrack for the video features several tracks from Moby's best selling album Play, which Moby has generously allowed the Society to use, including: Honey, Body Rock, Machete, Run On and Inside. Moby's support for Vegetarian Nutrition is particularly appropriate. The sleeve notes to Play contain an essay on veganism by Moby in which he explains why he is a vegan. He also stresses,
"If for some reason you ever decide to become a vegetarian or vegan, please do so carefully. Most of our conventional diets are so meat and animal product based that when we give up meat we don't know what to replace it with. Although a vegetarian or vegan diet is a million times healthier than a carnivorous diet, making the transition away from eating animals needs to be done wisely". Vegetarian Nutrition succeeds in meeting this need by helping young people to understand what constitutes a balanced vegetarian diet and just how appetising and exciting it can be. The video complements the GCSE project pack already available from the Society. Working in partnership with schools, parents and pupils, The Vegetarian Society has a lively youth education programme. Services include project packs, leaflets, posters, a video lending library and a virtual schoolroom on this website The video is available from The Vegetarian Society and costs £5.00 plus £1 postage and packing (cheques should be made payable to The Vegetarian Society or phone/fax your credit card details).
