26th June - 2nd July PRESS RELEASE September 1999 So you want to be a 21st Century vegetarian? Now's your chance. National Vegetarian Week 2000 will run from 26th June to 2nd July. It's a week to flex your taste buds and try out meals that are good for you, the environment, and especially good for animals! National Vegetarian Week is organised and co-ordinated by The Vegetarian Society. It aims to raise awareness of how compassionate, planet-friendly, healthy and, above all, fun vegetarianism can be. The week will involve supermarkets, health food stores, schools, fitness centres and caterers across the country. Previous National Vegetarian Weeks have asked people to break-out of their old way of eating and get an appetite for life. Encouragement has been provided in the form of a sexy cinema advert featuring erotic fruit and veg, a 60ft projection on to the House of Commons and a very large fork! The culmination of the week will be an event on Saturday July 1st 2000. Past events have included mega veggie barbecues, giant inflatables, veggie strongmen, footballing fruit and giant salads! Next year's event is sure to be another veggie extravaganza! A sponsorship pack for companies & organisations wanting to get involved in the week will be available in October. National Vegetarian Week 99 was sponsored by the Linda McCartney food brand.
