PRESS RELEASE
January 2000

For the first time in its 90-year history, the World Vegetarian Congress will take place in Canada. The Toronto Vegetarian Association is hosting this event at the 4-star Toronto Colony Hotel, located in downtown Toronto and will take place from July 10-16, 2000.

In this millennial year we invite you to join us to 'Share the Vision' of a healthier, kinder and greener world, brought about by more and more people across the planet becoming vegetarian.

Live in a vegetarian world for a week
Whether it's during the social gatherings or the many daily lectures and activities, you will feel the support of our international contingency helping to build your energy and enthusiasm. You will leave feeling recharged and re-energized from meeting like-minded people. Weekly and daily packages are available. Who knows, you may even meet a future soulmate!

Daily activities planned
You will have a choice of participating in hands-on workshops, cooking demonstrations, group discussions and formal lectures on topics such as health, being vegetarian, global issues, vegetarian activism, ethics, ecology and food planning and preparation. All this will be brought to you by over 70 highly qualified speakers, including T. Colin Campbell, PhD, co-author of The China Project; Howard Lyman, author of Mad Cowboy and Ingrid Newkirk, co-founder/chair of PETA (see our web site for the list). All sessions and meals will take place at the hotel.

A bit about Toronto
Toronto, the largest city in Canada, lies on the northwestern shore of Lake Ontario, 90 miles from the US border. We are an affordable, safe, clean and very green city with many parks and ravines. And we have over 35 vegetarian restaurants!

Eight optional excursions are being planned for attendees. Visitors can marvel at the works of the famous Group of Seven at the McMichael Gallery, or enjoy the astounding beauty of the Canadian wilderness on a canoe trip in Algonquin Park. A boat ride at the base of Niagara Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is also being arranged, along with a theatrical performance in Stratford and various tours around Toronto.

Accommodation
Accommodation for out-of-town visitors includes the Toronto Colony Hotel, and the nearby University of Toronto New College Residence. Parking is available at special rates.

Food
The Congress will be a celebration of delicious, nutritious vegan food. Meals will be served on-site under the guidance of award-winning vegetarian chefs, Ken Bergeron and Ron Pickarski.

Getting to Toronto
Air Canada, the official airline of the Congress, is offering special airfare rates. In addition, the Toronto Colony is steps away from the inter-city coach terminal and the subway, and close to the train station.
