Vegetarian Society Awards 2001

The Grosvenor Hotel, London

Friday 29 June 2001

To encourage ‘best practice’ among manufacturers and caterers, The Vegetarian Society has created 11 new Vegetarian Society Awards. The awards will be presented at the star-studded Fundraising Gala Ball to be held on Friday 29 June 2001 at the Grosvenor House Hotel. The award categories are wide ranging and provide the perfect opportunity for vegetarians to reward those who make life easier, tastier and more friendly for veggies in 2001. To keep up to date with the awards, check www.vegsoc.org/awards or call 0161 925 2000.

Judges include Lyn Weller (Principal of the Cordon Vert Cookery School and cookery book author), Richard Cawley (celebrity ’Ready Steady Cook’ chef), and Vegetarian Society Patron, Jerome Flynn (Soldier Soldier and Badger).

The 11 categories are: The Special award for Achievement, to be presented to, the nominee judged to have made an outstanding contribution to vegetarianism. (This could be a local Vegetarian Society contact, journalist, TV, music or radio personality, or a chef), Best Independent Shop (retail), Best New Drink, Best New Snack or Confectionery, Best New Ready Meal, Best Hotel/B&B/Guesthouse, Best Independent Café/Restaurant/Pub, Best Restaurant/Pub/Café Chain, Best New Non Food Product, Best New Cake, Biscuit or Pudding, Travel Award (air/rail/etc).

Nominations for these prestigious awards have been gathered from visitors to the Society’s website and through readers of The Vegetarian, the quarterly magazine of the Society’s members. Each nominee will be thoroughly vetted by the Society for suitability of product or service for a vegetarian diet before allowing it to be considered for an award. continued

The Vegetarian Society, a registered charity, is the oldest vegetarian organisation in the world. It offers an independent voice able to promote and provide information on vegetarianism.
