November: The November issue of Trafford Today, our local authority's newsletter, carried a report about the Society and the Cordon Vert School entitled "Trafford - the international home of vegetarianism".

November 11: Our "Silent but deadly" campaign is mentioned in the Observer in the article Why eating less meat could cut global warming. (The poster was also pictured in the print version)

November 9: Our Christmas recipes were mentioned in the Vegetarian BBC Good Food Magazine's Christmas edition.

November 6: Tuesday 6 November 2007, BBC Autumnwatch presenters Kate Humble and Bill Oddie namecheck The Vegetarian Society after Twiggy and Woody (the beavers) are made honorary members of the Society. To find out more read on

13 October: Our Seedling Symbol got a mention in the Telegraph's Culinary Advice section when someone asked what "suitable for vegetarians" really means on labels.

10 September: The Cordon Vert Cookery School is featured in Manchester Confidential
4 August: Liz O'Neill, Head of Communications for The Vegetarian Society, did a short interview on Vanessa Feltz programme on BBC Radio London in the morning, about Harvey Nichols’ decision to stop selling Foie Gras.
31 July: Liz O’Neill, Head of Communications, The Vegetarian Society appeared on BBC Radio Five Live’s Midday News programme talking about the health benefits of a vegetarian diet.

18 July: Meat is Murder on the Environment. New Scientist quoted us while reporting a new study into the effects of meat on the environment: (Link to New Scientist)
11 July: Our chief executive, Annette Pinner, appeared on Radio 4's Today programme to talk about vegetarianism and global warming.

Other vegetarian stories in the news

November 28: Children at a vegetarian nursery in Norwich were today revealed to be among the best-fed youngsters in the UK!
The lucky youngsters at the University of East Anglia Nursery were celebrating after the nursery was named one of just four highly commended nurseries in the very first Nursery Food Awards. The awards, which are the first of their kind, were run by pioneering food company Organix, in partnership with the Soil Association, following on from their successful School Food Awards, and supported by Hobart and Nursery World magazine.

November 2: Gordon Ramsay appeared on Friday Night With Jonathon Ross. Not only did Jonathon correct Mr Ramsay when he said that vegetarians ate fish but the chef seemed to have met his match in Girls Aloud star Cheryl Tweedy Cole (a vegetarian herself). 31 October: With the World Cancer Research Fund report due out today - several reports have appeared in the papers:
- Daily Telegraph
- LA Times
- The Sydney Morning Herald

28 October: Denis Campbell, health correspondent for The Observer, writers about a study linking red meat and alcohol to increased risk of cancer.

13 October: the East Anglian Times had a report about The Red Lion pub in Great Bricett, whose landlady, Jan Wise, has decided to serve only veggie meals.

8 October: Manchester Evening News reported that vegetarian food manufacturer (and Seedling Symbol holders) Goodlife, based in Warrington, had secured funding to boost increased production in the run-up to Christmas. It seems many people prefer their butternut squash and nut roasts to turkey!

11 September: Vegetarian Chef wins TV Competition. Chef from the Bean Inn vegetarian restaurant in St Ives Bay, Paula Richards recently featured in the new series of “The Peoples Cookbook” (UK TV Food) which is broadcast this week. Paula had to work with top chefs Antony Worrall Thompson & Paul Rankin to recreate her most popular restaurant dish in front of a studio audience and professional tasting panel and was thrilled with winning the competition.
