This was our original posting on the subject:
On
Thursday 3 December, Sir Paul McCartney and Dr Rajendra Pachuri will
address members of the
European Parliament in a special hearing titled ‘Global
Warming and Food Policy: Less Meat = Less Heat’. The world famous musician, vegetarian and environmentalist and the Chairman
of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will set out how everyone
can reduce their contribution to climate change by consuming less meat.
Timed ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen (7-18
December), the hearing aims to raise awareness of the environmental impact
of livestock production. Please help make this happen by urging your
own MEPs to attend.
You can contact your MEPs through this

The following
text has been used by the Vegetarian Society’s Chief
Executive Dr Annette Pinner, but please feel free to express your own
thoughts. Your MEPs have been elected as your representatives in Europe
and it is important that you let them know what matters to you.
I am writing to urge you to
attend the hearing on ‘Global Warming
and Food Policy: Less Meat = Less Heat’ on 3rd Dec in Brussels
when Sir Paul McCartney and Dr Rajendra Pachauri will set out how each
individual can reduce their contribution to climate change by consuming
less meat. As we approach Copenhagen it is vital that the impact of agriculture
is considered just as much as transport and energy. Attending the hearing
will ensure that you are fully aware of the environmental impact of livestock
production and enable you to contribute fully to the debate on climate
change.
