Pigs – in the news

pigThe plight of pigs is very much in the news this year. Recent articles in the Guardian and reports on the BBC have discussed pig farming across Europe, while Compassion in World Farming spearheaded a campaign focusing on their own report on 60 farms in five key pig producing countries (Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Spain and the UK).

Channel Four’s Great British Food Fight - a selection of programmes with different angles on food – will include Jamie Oliver looking at pigs and how British farmers raise them, while Joanna Lumley will be experiencing the conditions in which farmed pigs live, while the RSPCA has launched a project called ‘Rooting for the pigs’.

Other Ways to help

If you want to spread the word, the following resources are available by calling 0161 925 2000 or emailing resources@vegsoc.org

Pig postcards.

pig postcardOur pig postcards were produced a while ago but are still sadly as relevant today.

The postcards feature the phrase - Farm animal regulations in the UK are famously strict, a fourteen stone pig is entitled to 0.65square meters of living space. Does that sound comfortable to you?

The postcards are a great way to remind friends or visitors to a stall about the plight of pigs. Postcards are available by contacting 0161 925 2000 or by emailing resources@vegsoc.org (please mention pig postcards in subject line).
