If you are new to vegetarian cuisine here are a few useful tips to help you cook up a storm in the kitchen
  • The beauty of vegetarian cooking is that you make it what ever you want it to be, from the simple, effortless snack right through to meals that offer more of a challenge.
  • When cooking make sure you only use free–range eggs and that cheeses are suitable for veggies.
  • Be on the look out for hidden animal ingredients in your shopping basket.
  • Veggie food does not have to be ‘something’ and two veg. Why not use rice or pasta instead?
  • Invest in a cookbook or check out your library.

  • Improve your skills with a Cordon Vert cookery course
  • As you use up items in your larder, replace them (if needed) with the vegetarian alternative. Then in a couple of months you’ll have a great veggie larder that slots into your usual meals.
  • A lot of foods you already eat will be veggie so don't throw everything in the kitchen away.
  • You don’t need to always cook from scratch — there are many veggie ready meals available.
  • Modify family–traditional meals with soya, tofu,or quorn based products. So everyone is included at meal times.
  • Most of your favourite recipes can be adapted to become suitable for veggies. Mushrooms, pulses, and grains all make excellent substitutes for the bulk and texture of meat. Should you prefer there is also a great range of meat substitutes now on offer.
