The staff canteen will be taking part in National Vegetarian Week, putting on a different theme each day, eg jacket potatoes with a veg filling bar one day, veggie sandwiches another etc. They cater for 4000 staff and the public too, lunch time opening hours are 11.45am to 2pm.

May 30: we will be organising a vegetarian festival at this famous temple. 4-5pm, tour of the temple, 5pm onwards - a programme of speakers, cultural items and food! The Mahaveer Awards will also be presented to Fauja Singh ( 93 year old marathon runner), the Founder of the Vegan Society and Peter Melchett of The Soil Association.

City Cafe Restaurants will be demonstrating their commitment to vegetarian food with the launch of a special garden menu to celebrate National Vegetarian Week. The full garden menu showcases each chef's culinary skills and uses only the finest seasonal ingredients - this is not just an occasional meat-free adaptation but an exciting and tasty range of choices for vegetarians; dishes that are low in fat and calories are indicated with a heart symbol for health-conscious diners. Typical dishes will include - wild mushroom croyvettes with cranberry, pear & mint relish; sweet pea and mint soup; open ravioli with roasted Mediterranean vegetable ragout or twice baked goats cheese souffle with roast pear and plum compote. Babylon's Head Chef, Oliver Smith, has created a special menu for National Vegetarian Week using the freshest, most seasonal ingredients, artfully combining fruit and vegetable aphrodisiacs to create an exciting and inspiring menu. Dishes include: Wild mushroom & basil risotto with red pepper salsa, artichoke salad with truffle, celery, mimolette; Vegetable tart fines with salsa verde, Pappardelle with roast fennel, pine nuts, peccorino romano and lemon oil; sliced exotic fruits with lychee sorbet, pumpkin cheesecake with orange ice cream. £12.50 for two courses, £14.50 for three, available for lunch only but there will be a selection of vegetarian specials on the evening menu.
