We're having food tastings and an art & poetry competition (staff and pupils only). Our dinner lady is providing prizes for the best poem, piece of writing or artwork. Prizes include dvd player, radios etc. the children will complete a record of 5-a-day each day of the Week too.

We will be celebrating our first birthday as we opened our organic, vegetarian store at the start of National Vegetarian Week last year! We are inviting our customers to challenge us - choose a vegetable and we'll find you a delicious recipe. Also hoping to promote NVW along with our local radio station.

We look after 19 schools in East Lothian (but not all are taking part). The school meals service will be promoting the vegetarian choice at lunchtime and encouraging the children to try it.

Look for a window display in involving MacSween's vegetarian haggis for National Vegetarian Week in Peckham's, Buntsfield Place, Edinburgh.
MacSween's will also be informing their customers about National Vegetarian Week.

Zest (Bengali/Indian restaurant)

Food. We will be encouraging carnivorous diners to choose from the alternative vegetarian menu - choices include Chana puree (chickpeas with puff bread), Sabzi Chamon Bahar (spiced mixed veg with bananas or vegetarian pakora made with potatoes, mangoes and chillies). The house menu includes vegetarian and non vegetarian dishes to suit Eastern and Western palates and experienced staff are on hand to office advice and recommondations.

FIFE

Every school in Fife is taking part in National Vegetarian Week (160 primary schools, 25 high schools). We're having completely vegetarian menus, giving the children questionnaires to find out what their favourites are and we'll try and incorporate those into our next set of menus. Lots of schools are having fun days, green days to encourage healthy eating etc.

Falkland Tay Veggies (Veg Soc Local Contacts)
May 24: Food. Social event. Tay Veggies, local contact group of The Vegetarian Society will be celebrating National Vegetarian Week 21-27 May 2007 with a Vegetarian Cookery Evening at Pillars of Hercules, Falkland on Thursday 24 May from 7.30 - 9.30. The Tay Veggies will be offering samples and recipes for a variety of easily prepared dishes and explaining how to cook them. Tickets which includes live music and soft drinks cost £5 on the door; £4 before, are available from the Pillars of Hercules shop or email bruce@pillars.co.uk

Trinity High School

We aim to have a week of awareness. Every class that passes through the Home Economic Dept. will have at least one period of information regarding vegetarianism. We aim to discuss the moral and ethical issues; what is a vegetarian?; dietary requirements of a vegetarian; foods that are suitable for vegetarians and advice for anyoen thinking of becoming a vegetarian.

Hamilton St Elizabeth Primary School

Each class has been allocated a fruit or a vegetable to research, cook with, sing songs about, dress up as and display in order to highlight the importance of this food group.
