Tay Veggies
celebrate at Pillars of Hercules with vegetarian cooking/tasting
evening |
Last
night Pillars of Hercules was jumpin with the Tay Veggies!
We hardly had our "signature dishes" on
the tables when people arrived - as if out of nowhere! People,
chatting, tasting, laughing, drinking and two talented guitarists
playing great
music!
People were tasting and getting recipes and talking about vegetarianism
and getting a few more ideas about what to dish up to those veggy
friends and family. We had a great time at Pillars and thanks to
Bruce for being brave enough to let us in for the night!
We hope all the folks that came along enjoyed chatting to us as
we did to them!
National Vegetarian Week really did happen for the Tay Veggies
this year!

Willows Primary School, Cheshire
celebrate NVW |
Hi, I thought you may like to hear what happened in my daughter's
school for Vegetarian Week. Her school is Willows Primary School
Timperley in Cheshire. I took a primary schools pack in a couple
of weeks ago and the headteacher - Mrs Foster, seemed really pleased
with it and promised to have a look and discuss what they could
do with the cook - Mrs Jolly. Well I was delighted when my daughter
came home from school with a letter saying that the school would
be celebrating Vegetarian Week with lots of great food! Every day
there were at least 2 vegetarian choices on the menu as well as
the usual salad and baked potatoes. Choices included Bean and Pasta
Bake, Lentil and sweet potato curry, Courgette, cheese and tomato
pizza, Vegetable samosas, Bean-burgers rissoles and tomato sauce,
vegetarian pasty with pan haggarty, vegetable lasagne, vegetarian
chilli, and red onion and cheddar cheese quiche with cous cous.
I am always very happy for my daughter
to have school meals as everything is cooked from fresh using
fresh
vegetables
and very healthy choices
but this week, the school really excelled themselves! The posters
supplied in the pack were stuck up in the dinner hall and will
be a permanent fixture and the lesson ideas were also used as my
daughter happily reported! I was very interested to chat to the
children to find out what they thought and so I went into school
one lunchtime and took some photographs. Although the younger children
were a little reluctant to try anything new, the kitchen staff
were always keen to offer them a little taste of something new
as well as their main dish to tempt them, which was nice. The older
children seemed more open to try new things, but were also happy
to ask for extras if spoilt for choice ;-) I asked lots of children
what their favourite meals were and the overwhelming answers were
- Macaroni Cheese and vegetarian lasagne! Veggies rule again!!!!!
A big Well Done! to the Willows Primary School and thank you for
listening ;-)
