"Here are photos from our NVW stall in Stevenage town centre, Herts, on Saturday 24th May. We gave out free chocolate samples kindly supplied by Plamil and Humdinger. Cauldron Foods sent money-off vouchers for us which we gave to people visiting the stall who expressed a strong interest in becoming veggie or who were new veggies needing support. We ran the stall from 12 until 3pm and the day was a great success. There was plenty of interest from passers by, and very few refused the offer of free chocolate!"

"To celebrate National Vegetarian Week (and I also included the week before!), I decided to take in different dishes for my colleagues at work to sample. These included: spinach and asparagus risotto rice cake, pea, mint and feta fritters, tomato and chutney tarts, avocado dip, tomato and lentil quiche, couscous stuffed tomatoes and courgette and rosemary rice cake. Everyone loved them all and were definitely inspired to try cooking some vege dishes. Friends often express a desire to introduce some meat free meals into their diets but many of the token vegetarian cuisine on offer in restaurants simply doesn't tempt them. If only chefs could be more innovative!"

"Wow - what a busy few weeks. I'm totally exhausted!

Saturday 17th May - Display, Walk & Meal in the Boardwalk Café at Whisby Nature Park

Sunday 18th May - Phone call from BBC Radio Lincolnshire. Could we provide a member of our group to cook lunches next week live on radio? And could I go into the studio on Friday for a live interview?

Monday 19th May - Steve put up another display for NVW, this time in the Central Library in Lincoln.

Monday 19th May - Vegetarian Stir-fry prepared live on BBC Radio Lincolnshire!

Monday 19th May - Vegetarian Awareness Event for Professional Caterers.

Tuesday 20th May - Glenn on Radio again. Apparently people had been phoning in the programme saying that after listening to Glenn they were considering going vegetarian.

Tuesday 20th May - Our regular monthly evening gathering. One new person turned up after reading about the group in the paper and another new person turned up after seeing the display in the library.

Wednesday 21st May - BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

Friday 23rd May - BBC Radio Lincolnshire again. Glenn took in a supply of vegan and vegetarian cakes for the presenters to eat on air.

Saturday, 25th May - Our final event for NVW was a 3 course meal at Pimento Vegetarian Café. Twenty five people (regulars and quite a few new people) turned up for the delicious meal. A very friendly and sociable evening.

Our leaflets, the media coverage and the two NVW displays led to a total of 16 new people attending our events over the week, and according to the phone calls made to the radio station - a number of people considering becoming vegetarian - so that can only be a good thing. So all in all an eventful and very successful week for the vegetarian cause."

From Rosalyn Spencer, Chair, Lincoln Vegetarian & Vegan Group

"Our National Vegetarian Week stall went very well with lots of people very interested in the free recipe booklets and leaflets we had on our stall, so much so that we ran out of the recipe booklets in the space of a few hours! The free packets of seeds you kindly sent us also went very quickly too. There was also a small amount of food samples on our stall and these were received well by the public who happily sampled sausages from Redwoods and Burgers from Frys and a member of our group even made Chocolate cake which was very popular indeed and we made sure we handed out the recipe for this.

As a member of our group couldn't help out at the last minute, we had a National vegetarian t-shirt spare, so my sister offered to wear one in the beauty salon she works in and put on a display of leaflets and the recipe booklets from the Vegetarian Society along with some vegetarian food samples."

"I did a couple of interviews on Radio Oxford during NVW on "Daytime With Danny & Lou". One of the presenters (Danny Cox) "went veggie for three days". The first interview was discussing his options for meat free meals etc. The second was a follow-up. Unfortunately, he ate some fish claiming that he hadn't realised this wasn't allowed. Also, he didn't cook anything from scratch. But overall it was a good item, mainly because the story was in two parts.

I'm attaching an image of me with them at Radio Oxford. I'm on the right hand side. On the left is Louisa Hannan with Danny Cox in the middle."

"Birmingham Vegetarians & Vegans meeting on "What do Vegetarians & Vegans eat?" was a great success. Three of our members, who have never previously done a cookery demonstration, very bravely volunteered to demonstrate a favourite dish. Everything worked really well and we had 39 people come along to the meeting and everyone enjoyed tasting the food."

From Barbara Staples and Martin Doyle, Birmingham Vegetarians & Vegans.

"Overcast and cool conditions faced a high quality field of thirty competitors in the Vegetarian Cycling and Athletic Club’s 10-mile Open and Medium Gear time trial. A nagging side wind made a tough course even harder for the riders, and made several of us marshals regret the light clothing we were wearing in anticipation of a pleasant early summer’s evening.

In spite of the ‘hard riders’ nature of the event there was an upbeat atmosphere, and many compliments were expressed at the quality of the promotion. Altogether a successful and enjoyable event promoted by the club during our 120th anniversary year as part of National Vegetarian Week.

Thanks are due to friends, family and club members for rallying round to support the event; the post-race vegetarian buffet going down particularly well."
