National Vegetarian Week 2009 was a fantastic success, click here to download our report and find out what happened during the Week
National Vegetarian Week (NVW) is the annual awareness-raising campaign promoting inspirational vegetarian food and the benefits of a meat-free lifestyle. Celebrated by the Vegetarian Society since 1992, the Week is now an established event and everyone from small businesses to big corporations, schools, community groups and individuals are welcome to come on board and make the week a success.

tibits celebrated the launch of National Vegetarian Week in style, 18th – 24th May at tibits Heddon Street W1, with a spectacular piece of living art that looked good enough to eat. A body painted beauty revealed her five-a-day at fantastic vegetarian restaurant, tibits, a real feast for the eyes.

Restaurants and chefs can join BigHospitality.co.uk from May 18th for National Vegetarian Week, to find out why their business can't afford to ignore the needs of 8 per cent of the population. "We'll be posting inspirational vegetarian recipes from top chefs, revealing the names of the Vegetarian Society's Vegetarian Chefs of the Future and covering news from the week - all without mention of mushroom risotto or Heather Mills".

have offered 10% off all purchases for Vegetarian Society members during NVW. Please show your membership card at the till. On Thursday 21st/Friday 22nd they will also provide all customers with goodie bags for any purchase made over £25.


Lush Covent Garden (London) celebrate NVW with an extra free Fresh Face Mask Workshop

The Covent Garden, London, branch of Lush will be doing something extra special for National Vegetarian Week. On Wednesday 20th May, the Vegetarian Society Approved makers of fresh, handmade cosmetics will be holding a free fresh face mask workshop between 6 and 8pm at their Covent Garden store. However, this workshop is already fully booked, so they are going to run another one on 27th May.

They promise to be a great, hands-on experience and an opportunity to try some fresh Lush products. There will also be complimentary refreshments.

There are a limited number of places available, so if you would like to go on the 27th, please call 0207 240 4570 to book your place.


Simon Rimmer guest chef in a Newcastle Festival of Food and Wine

Simon Rimmer of Greens Restaurant, West Didsbury, will be taking part in a Festival of Food and Wine which runs from Sunday 17th - Monday 25th May 2009 at Jesmond Dene House, Newcastle upon Tyne. His dinner is on Monday 18th, 7.30pm for 8.00pm. Cost £65.00 including champange and canape reception, dinner and wines. Open to the public by pre-booking directly with the hotel on 0191 212 3000. 50%25 non-refundable deposit required. Simon was voted the most veggie-friendly tv chef in the 2008 Vegetarian Awards.


Get creative in the kitchen for our new recipe competition

To coincide with National Vegetarian Week 2009 the Vegetarian Society is launching recipe competitions for both school caterers and students and, of course, there will be prizes… we’ve got Cordon Vert leisure cookery courses and Kenwood smoothie makers to give away!
