Last year (2008) we had meals and
snacks made up of only raw vegetables, fruit and juices made up of
a combination of fruit and veg . We only vegetarian meals at school
anyway so to eat satvic food (Satvic food is one that can be digested
easily and brings balance to one's mind) was an easy change .The children
could tell the difference and their energy levels went up and they
felt better after their afternoon meal and snacks. We also interacted
with our local community, giving out juices to thirsty shop owners
and giving out leaflet from the veg society .In our school we had a
large board with lots of information about vegetarianism. We celebrated
the whole week and really enjoyed it, the children learnt so much about
food, health , ethic, fair-trade and the body/mind relationship. How could we follow that ?
This year we made a decision to go that extra mile .In our school
in Manchester ,we arranged to have a full week of vegetarian food
,but we also chose to cut out anything from an animal (milk, cheese
etc).
We made
bread ,cakes ,soups, stews ,rice pasta and sauces .We had a whole range
of organic and vegan foods to try .Every day a new
parcel came to the door from our internet orders, some we did not
like, other we did enjoy, but most of all we enjoyed the process.
We still wear leather shoes and have woolly jumpers so we are not
vegan yet, but that seems to be the next step for us .We have been
vegetarian for a number of years now.
Adults and children raise their awareness of the issue around beiending
kind to ourselves and the planet and most of all our furry friends.
We noticed even more events on your web site this year , we hope
and pray that it gathers momentum and raises awareness about health,
mind and the treatment of animals .Love your mind body and souls
be a vegetarian !!!!

Vegetarian Group's market stall for National Vegetarian Week
is becoming an annual event! In the evening
they had a fabulous time at Perkins Pantry café/restaurant
for a vegetarian buffet, with lots of different tasty dishes
to try. |
Southend
Southend Animal Aid held another successful information stall this
for The Vegetarian Socieity's National Vegetarian Week.
We handed out lots of free recipe cards, packets of seeds and not
to mention lots of delicious Vegetarian food samples such as Redwoods
'chicken' strips and Lincolnshire style sausages.
Lots of members of the public happily tucked into these and were
very impressed with the taste, 2 members of the public even declared
they were going to go Vegetarian!
We also helped to promote our local
Vegetarian/Vegan Restaurant by handing out their flyers with a 10%
discount to members of the public. Thank you to all those who helped
on the day and the event was even
covered in a local newspaper!
