BEST OF THE BREKKIES ANNOUNCED!
Vegetarian Society Awards - Best Veggie Breakfast Shortlist

The Vegetarian Society is pleased to announce the shortlist for this year’s Best Veggie Breakfast Award. Following a public vote, five contenders for the prestigious award have been chosen by vegetarians up and down the UK.

Breakfasts ranging from the classic (free-range) eggs, veggie sausages and toast, to home-made hash browns, fresh fruit smoothies and banana pancakes, made it into the top five. Each shortlisted favourite was recognised by its voters for its use of ingredients, ‘heartiness’ and overall presentation.

The shortlist is as follows:

1 - Coast B&B, St. Ives, Cornwall
2 - The Byre Vegetarian B&B, Harbottle, Nr. Rothbury
3 - Anita de la Riviere's B&B, Cockermouth, Cumbria
4 - Haie Barn Vegetarian B&B, Dorstone, Herefordshire
5 - Paskin's Town House, Brighton

A specially selected panel will judge the winner and the very best of the brekkies will be announced in January 2007.

Spokesperson for The Vegetarian Society, Collette Walsh, says: “We congratulate these shortlisted contenders for the crown of Best Veggie Brekkie. Vegetarians will not put up with cold cereal or toast anymore! There are over three million vegetarians in the UK and we are a powerful force… and one that loves a good brekkie like anybody else. The standards these shortlisted contenders have set send out a positive message to all hotels, cafes, restaurants and breakfast providers.”

The Vegetarian Society’s Awards are highly regarded in the food and drinks industry. They promote best practice among caterers, manufacturers and retailers, and highlight the importance of integrity in the vegetarian market place.
