| October 2007 Caterer’s fish-conceptions The Vegetarian Society recently had complaints from parents concerned that some school caterers are offering fish as a vegetarian option. Although the majority of caterers understand that vegetarians don’t eat fish it appears that a minority still need to get over their fish-conceptions! Jamie Johnson, Youth Education Officer said, “I’ve spoken to many a dismayed parent whose children have been offered fish as a lunchtime vegetarian option - vegetarians don’t eat fish and never have. Any parents who may be worried about the provision of vegetarian school dinners should liaise with the school in question but they can also contact The Vegetarian Society for information and support. ” The Vegetarian Society’s free catering guidance - ‘Vegetarian Catering for Schools and Colleges’ - is available for parents and caterers, call 0161 925 2000 or visit www.youngveggie.org The booklet is suitable for primary, secondary and further education establishments. It gives a good grounding in what a vegetarian is as well as including practical advice and recipes. The Vegetarian Society is an educational charity formed in 1847.
