Most Veggie Friendly TV Chef Winner Announced
There are so many cookery and food programmes currently on TV that back in April the Vegetarian Society launched the new award for the Most Veggie Friendly TV Chef. Well, the votes are in and the most veggie friendly chef as voted for online at www.vegsoc.org is Simon Rimmer. Simon can currently be seen on BBCs Something for the Weekend, runs the award winning vegetarian restaurant Greens in Manchester, works with Cauldron Foods, and is the author of The Accidental Vegetarian. Caroline Chisholm, Head of Communications at the Vegetarian Society, said, “Congratulations to Simon, not only is he an accomplished chef who understands vegetarian cuisine but he also proves how successful a vegetarian business can be. It’s great that he is flying the flag for vegetarian food. However TV programmes and chefs have quite a way to go before vegetarian audiences are satisfied. Many of our members and those who voted complained at the complete lack of vegetarian food on the TV and decided not to vote. It’s time that TV chefs sat up and took notice of the millions of vegetarians and fans of veggie food, who would love to get more out of their programmes.” The Vegetarian Society’s Awards promote best practice among caterers, manufacturers and retailers, and highlight the importance of integrity in the vegetarian marketplace. The Awards also acknowledge those who promote vegetarianism through the media.
