Chip loving veggies - spill the beans
To celebrate National Chip Week the Vegetarian Society has launched a quest to uncover the most popular veggie accompaniment for a good old bag of chips! Sue Taylor spokesperson for The Vegetarian Society said, “As one of the UK’s most well known dishes is fish and chips, we want to find out what’s the perfect vegetarian alternative to fish to complement the humble, chipped potato. We would also like to see if there’s a difference between non-fish eaters in the north and south of the UK.” So far the runaway leaders in the online search are veggie sausages, veggie burgers and mayo. Plus the moister choices of peas, curry sauce and beans. More specialized taste buds are satisfied with seaweed burgers, pea fritters, battered mushrooms and mashed avocado. To add your favourite veggie accompaniment to the search visit www.vegsoc.org/fish. The Vegetarian Society would also like to hear about any chip shop which caters well for veggies.
