Vegetarians - a very British tradition

(British Food Fortnight 20 Sept – 5 Oct)

With British Food Fortnight on the way, don't forget the veggies. Veggie food is truly British – the Vegetarian Society of the United Kingdom is the oldest vegetarian organisation in the world and was formed in 1847. A Mrs J Brotherton wrote the first cookery book devoted to vegetarian recipes in 1812.

So to celebrate British Food Fortnight and the Society's longevity, we present a range of dishes with a regional twist – Canal Floddies, Blind Scouse, Cornish Pasties, Ale and Mushroom Puff Pastry Pie with Champ, Dovedale and Beetroot Layered Yorkshire Pudding – to name but a few.

Or how about tucking into a couple of recipes using seasonal ingredients? For September we have a Spinach, Almond and Red Wine Pie with Pepperonata. Plus for October dip into Carrot, Red Lentil and Sesame Bites with a Sweet Chiili Sauce.
