Northern Triumph for Best UK Independent Restaurant for Vegetarian Food

Joint winners announced.

West Yorkshire and Stockton on Tees top venues.

Back in April this year the Vegetarian Society launched the search to find the Best UK Independent Restaurant for Vegetarian Food. The judges found it hard to separate two of the shortlisted venues and so this year there are joint winners for 2008 both based in the North of England.

Caroline Chisholm, Head of Communications at the Vegetarian Society said, “Traditionally, the North is often seen as offering poor choice for vegetarians, so we’re delighted to see that it now boasts two of the best veggie restaurants in the UK. Congratulations to both Dandelion & Burdock and The Waiting Room for helping to break the mould.”

The charity wanted to find out if there was a venue that catered well for vegetarians. One that not only offered a great choice of vegetarian dishes but also gave good service, was helpful, welcoming and good value. The nominations for the awards were voted for through the Charity’s website and members’ magazine. Mystery diners were then sent to the venues shortlisted. Presentations to the winners will be in November.
