Young? Vegetarian or vegan? Want to learn to cook? Free cookery workshop.
Who says there is no such thing as a free lunch? The Vegetarian Charity is seeking applicants to attend its free ‘Vegan Venture’ Cookery Workshop at The Vegetarian Society’s prestigious Cordon Vert Cookery School in Altrincham, Cheshire on Saturday 30 August 2008. The one day workshop has been specifically designed by Cordon Vert tutors for young people. The workshop teaches the students how to prepare a number of quick and easy vegan dishes that taste delicious but will not break the bank! Students will have the opportunity to practice making completely animal-free treats such as Mushroom and Butterbean Stroganoff and Apple and Blackberry with Crunchy Nut Topping and Custard before tasting them over lunch. Application forms can be obtained from: Grants Secretary, Cobblers Cottage, Chapel Lane, Coxbank, Audlem, CW3 0EW or e-mail vegetariancharity@btinternet.com. Grants Secretary, Margaret Chatfield notes, “This is an excellent day for students who are going to university for the first time who would like to learn more about vegetarian cookery and nutrition from the experts at the Vegetarian Society’s Cordon Vert Cookery School. However, it would be a helpful course for any young vegetarian or vegan to attend.” Students who have attended previous courses recommend the experience: “Great atmosphere! It was all simple, nutritious food which could be done quickly and easily with things that most students have in their cupboards. I only wish I had done such a course before starting uni. Thank you so much for such an inspirational day.” Gail. As someone with no experience of cooking at all I was feeling a little terrified at doing something like this. But it turned out to be a really enjoyable experience with a great mix of different people.” Robyn To be eligible for a free place applicants must be vegetarian or vegan, aged 16 – 25 when the course takes place, and either be full-time students or able to demonstrate financial hardship. The course costs and all ingredients will be provided free of charge by The Vegetarian Charity. Overnight accommodation in single study, en-suite, bedrooms with breakfast at the Cordon Vert Cookery School is also offered free of charge to those students travelling some distance to attend the course. Additionally, applicants can apply for funding to cover the cost of travel to the Cordon Vert School. Notes to editors For more press information on the course please contact Margaret Chatfield on 01270 811393 and 07980 336925 or email vegetariancharity@btinternet.com. The Vegetarian Charity, which is entirely separate from The Vegetarian Society, makes grants to vegetarian young people in the UK and abroad in situations of poverty or financial need.
