VEGETARIAN
SOCIETY ANNOUNCES AWARDS FINALISTS
October 2002 Building on last
years success the Vegetarian Society is holding its second
Award Ceremony on 7 November 2002. This prestigious event aims to promote
best practice among caterers and manufacturers and highlight the importance
of integrity within the vegetarian marketplace. This year the Awards
will
be presented during a fundraising Gala Ball at the world famous Waldorf
Hotel, hosted by television presenter Catherine York.
Nominations for each
of the fourteen award categories were proposed by members of the Vegetarian
Society. The short listed companies and products are those who received
the most nominations, reflecting the perception and preferences of
the
vegetarian consumer. To assist Christine Walker, manager of the Cordon
Vert School of Cookery in the difficult process of selecting the winners
the Society is delighted to welcome three special guest judges: Richard
Cawley, the flamboyant TV chef (known for his adventurous vegetarian
cookery
on Ready Steady Cook and Cant Cook, Wont Cook), actress and
musician Hazel OConnor as well as the vegetarian Mrs Beeton of our
time, Rose Elliot MBE, who recently became the Vegetarian Societys
newest patron.

There will also be
two special awards : The Achievement Award for individual contribution
and commitment to vegetarianism and the award for Best Vegetarian Cookery
Writer.
The Vegetarian Society
looks forward to hosting this star studded event which begins with a
drinks reception at 7pm in The Waldorfs Adelphi Suite, followed
by a fantastic four-course meal-entirely vegetarian of course. The
Award Presentation
Ceremony will then take place before guests and nominees let their hair
down and celebrate to superb live music in the Palm Court ballroom.

The Vegetarian Society
defines a vegetarian as a person who eats no meat, poultry, game,fish,shellfish
or crustacea. Vegetarians also avoid the by-products of slaughter such
as gelatine or animal rennet in cheese. The society only approves products
containing eggs when they are free range.
