THE BEAN COUNTER OF CHORLTON,
JOINS THE VEGETARIAN SOCIETY FOOD AND DRINK GUILD

September 2002

The Vegetarian Society recommends that residents of Chorlton and visitors to this fashionable Manchester ‘village’ should take time out to enjoy some of the fabulous-and mostly organic - food available from The Bean Counter on Wilbraham Road.

Run by former accountant Morag Wright (the bean counter herself), this delightful establishment offers a delicious array of handmade vegetarian snacks and light meals to eat in, as well as offering a selection of vegetarian goodies for sale in their retail section. Enjoy your food or beverage in the laid back café area or take a seat outside and soak up Chorlton's unique atmosphere and watch the world go by. Alternatively pay a visit to The Sand Bar on Grosvenor Street (just off Oxford Road) where The Bean Counter are serving up a new weekday bar menu.

The Vegetarian Society is delighted to welcome The Bean Counter to The Food & Drink Guild, membership of which is only available to caterers that demonstrate a clear understanding of the requirements of a vegetarian lifestyle and have had their menus, recipes, ingredients and procedures approved by The Society.

Members of the Food and Drink Guild Scheme are able to use the Society’s approved logo (the seedling symbol)

The Vegetarian Society's trademark seedling symbol was established in 1969. Since then it has become the most widely recognised and trusted stamp of vegetarian approval anywhere in the world. The strength of the symbol is based on products meeting firm criteria. No other symbol gives consumers such reassurance and inspires the trust that comes from The Vegetarian Society seedling approved symbol.

The Vegetarian Society, a registered educational charity, is the oldest vegetarian organisation in the world. It offers an independent voice to promote and provide information on vegetarianism.

The Vegetarian Society Awards 2002, which promote good practice in the vegetarian food and catering industries will be held on 7 November 2002 at The Waldorf Hotel, The Strand, London.
