Pioneering good taste for keen veggie cooks

Many items in the popular Seasoned Pioneers’s range of authentic spice blends, chillies, herbs and seasonings have been approved by The Vegetarian Society as suitable for vegetarians*.

Seasoned Pioneers aim to “Help Adventurous Souls Achieve Culinary Inspiration”. Authenticity is fundamental to their philosophy with only the finest ingredients sourced such as Naturally Smoked Spanish Pimenton, Middle Eastern Sumac Berries and Telicherry Peppercorns from the Indian Malabar Coast. Our product range is exceptional with over one hundred spices, chillies and specialist ingredients ensuring the essence of every major world cuisine is captured.

Genuine spice blends are produced in-house by hand following strictly original recipes: selected spices are dry roasted together in smoking hot, cast iron pans to fully release and marry their flavours and aromas. Maximum freshness is retained throughout their use in the kitchen by utilising attractive resealable foil pouches. Seasoned Pioneers has already won the support of many well-known food writers including Nigella Lawson, Nigel Slater, Mary Cadogan and Antony Worrall-Thompson.

The Vegetarian Society’s ‘approved trademark ‘ was established in 1969. Since then it has become the most widely recognised and trusted stamp of vegetarian approval anywhere in the world. The symbol can be found on a huge range of products, including retail food and drinks, catering supplies, household goods, cosmetics and toiletries.

The strength of the symbol is based on products meeting four firm criteria: Products have to be free of animal flesh, meat or bone stock, animal carcass fats, gelatine, aspic or any other products resulting from slaughter. Approval will only be granted to products or ingredients not tested on animals since 1986, any eggs used in products must be free-range. In 1998 the criteria was modified to exclude genetically modified organisms as these will generally have been tested on animals.

The Society also requires that cross contamination does not occur between vegetarian and non-vegetarian products during food production. No other symbol gives consumers such reassurance and inspires the trust that comes from the Vegetarian Society approved symbol.

The Vegetarian Society, is the oldest vegetarian organisation in the world. It offers an independent voice able to promote and provide information on vegetarianism.

The Vegetarian Society Awards 2002 which promote good practice in the vegetarian food and catering industries will be held on 7 November 2002 at The Waldorf Hotel, The Strand, London.
