Food for all our Futures
35th World Vegetarian Congress
8-14th July 2002


The Vegetarian Society of the United Kingdom is encouraging vegetarians around the globe to join them in Edinburgh, Scotland for the 35th World Vegetarian Congress. From the 8th to the 14th of July 2002 Scotland’s vibrant capital city will be the centre of a celebration of vegetarianism, where ideas and views will be explored and shared, with the focus being Food for all our Futures. The congress will be packed with thought provoking speakers, practical sessions, mouth watering cookery demonstrations and lots of opportunities to network, make friends and have fun in this veggie friendly, modern city full of history, culture and life. Following the opening ceremony the Congress will have a busy schedule of discussions and speakers, with something for everyone, topics will include: philosophy, health, environmental choices, ethics, animal rights plus vegetarianism - its history and its future. During the Congress there will be lots of opportunities to experience the sights, sounds and history of Scotland by joining the planned excursions. Visit Loch Lomond, Stirling Castle, tour the beautiful and historic city of Edinburgh or get a taste of Scotland with a visit to Glenkinchie Whisky Distillery. For those who want to take advantage of their trip, the five day post -conference holiday is the ideal way to experience the spectacular scenery and immense heritage that Scotland has to offer.

Food will obviously play a large part at the Congress with delicious gourmet cuisine being demonstrated by Cordon Vert Cookery School, Rose Elliot and Dilip Barman at various sessions. All meals throughout the week will be vegan with raw food options available-so you will be able to sit back and enjoy!

The location for the Congress is the idyllic campus of Heriot Watt University, complete with its own loch, woodlands and sculpture trail, situated about 8 miles from the centre of Edinburgh, with great transport links.

The Vegetarian Society UK is the oldest vegetarian organisation in the world. It offers an independent voice able to promote and provide information on vegetarianism.
