Rose Elliot becomes a Patron of The Vegetarian Society
July 2002

The Vegetarian Society is delighted to announce the appointment of Rose Elliot MBE as its new Patron.

Rose Elliot's first book 'Simply Delicious', was published in 1967 and since that time she has written over fifty more vegetarian cookery books, published in several languages and many countries. Awarded an MBE in 1999 for services to vegetarian cuisine, Rose joins the Society at its most exciting time of year, with National Vegetarian Week and the 35th World Vegetarian Congress at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh, in full swing. For further information about National Vegetarian Week and the World Vegetarian Congress visit the Society's website www.vegsoc.org

Rose, who lives in Hampshire and London, does not intend to waste any time in her new role and will be giving cookery demonstrations at the World Vegetarian Congress, which the Society is proud to be hosting on behalf of the International Vegetarian Union. "Not so long ago, all vegetarians were offered in restaurants, if we were lucky, was a choice of cheese salad or an omelette. The food at the Congress is, I know, going to be a far cry from that," said Rose. "I am looking forward very much to demonstrating at the Congress - with the accent on fast recipes with fresh ingredients - and hope to say 'hello' to many of the Society's members personally."

Rose Elliot joins current Vegetarian Society Patrons Jerome Flynn, Sir Paul McCartney and Stella McCartney.

The Vegetarian Society, a registered educational charity, is the oldest vegetarian organisation in the world. It offers an independent voice able to promote and provide information on vegetarianism
