Get
Hot in the Kitchen !
With a new Valentine Menu
Jan 28, 2002
This Valentine's
Day why not get together, share the cooking, tempt each other's taste
buds
and create a little heat in the kitchen - with a menu created by The
Vegetarian Society? Dip into the sexy nature of food: start the meal
with Asparagus Spears in Garlic Butter, followed by Oyster
Mushroom and Shallot Tart with a Sun-Blush Tomato Purée,
then when you are ready, cool down with Chocolate, Raisin and Amaretto
Ice-Cream. Call 0161 925 2000 to get a free copy of the
Valentine recipes -and see them at www.vegsoc.org/valentine.
The Valentine Menu has been created to celebrate the season of love. Asparagus
is fun to eat with your fingers, dip the spears into the garlic butter, you could
even feed each other! Garlic has long been seen as a stimulant and if you both
eat it, you won't notice it on your breath. Tomatoes were originally called love
apples and are therefore particularly appropriate for Valentine's day, hence
the sun-blush tomatoes in the main course.
Then the combination of dark chocolate and almond flavoured Amaretto in the ice-cream
should make for a sweet end to the evening. Almonds are associated with passion
and fertility and chocolate has a history of stoking the flames of passion all
over the world.
