Voting in the The Vegetarian Society Awards 2002 is now underway! For the second year veggies have the perfect opportunity to make their voice heard and reward those that have made an impact on their lifestyle. Voting closes at the end of June 2002. To get your nomination form call 0161 925 2000 or vote online at www.vegsoc.org/awards 

Nominations are also being gathered through The Vegetarian Society's membership magazine The Vegetarian. The winners of The Vegetarian Society Awards 2002 will be announced at a gala evening on the 7th of November at London's Waldorf Hotel.

The Vegetarian Society Awards were created by The Society in 2001 to reward best practice in food manufacturing, catering and related sectors.

The Vegetarian Society Awards help everyone by informing, rewarding and increasing awareness of vegetarianism and giving vegetarians a voice.

Nomination categories this year are as follows:

- The Vegetarian Society's Achievement Award 2002
- Best Café, Pub or Takeaway
- Best Cake, Dessert or Pudding
- Best Caterer for an Educational Establishment
- Best Public Sector Caterer
- Best Hotel, Guesthouse, B&B Catering for Vegetarians
- Best Independent Retailer for Vegetarians
- Best Vegetarian Beverage
- Best New Food Product
- Best New Vegan Product
- Best Vegetarian Non-Food Product
- Best Restaurant Catering for Vegetarians
- Best Vegetarian Snack or Confectionery
- Best Supermarket
- Best Vegetarian Cookery Book
- The Vegetarian Society's Travel Award

The Vegetarian Society is the oldest vegetarian organisation in the world.  It offers an independent voice able to promote and provide information on vegetarianism.

  • Nominations for these prestigious awards have been gathered from visitors to The Society's website and through readers of The Vegetarian, the quarterly magazine of The Society's members. Each nominee will be thoroughly vetted by the Society for suitability of product or service for a vegetarian diet before allowing it to be considered for an award. The finalists in each category will then go before a panel of judges, before the winners are announced at a gala evening on the 7th of November at London's Waldorf Hotel.

  • The Vegetarian Society defines a vegetarian as a person who eats no fish, flesh or fowl. Vegetarians also avoid the by-products of slaughter such as gelatine or animal rennet in cheese.
