National Vegetarian Week May 19-25

EMBARGOED UNTIL 12:00 NOON MONDAY 19TH MAY 2003

New survey reveals that vegetarians get their satisfaction from courgettes and love getting juicy in the morning!

Everyone loves a bit of satisfaction so in keeping with this year's National Vegetarian Week theme we've been finding out what 'does it' for vegetarians. The results of a saucy new survey gives some very suggestive insights into where vegetarians take their pleasure - and with whom (or what)!

We wanted to find out whether veggies get more pleasure from a carrot or a green bean… do they get satisfaction from a big ripe banana or would they rather wrap their lips around a lovely long vegetarian sausage…? We thought long and hard about which questions we asked, we really wanted to get to the core of the matter and it seems we pressed the right buttons because the response from visitors to our web-site just kept on coming!!

Would it surprise you to know that vegetarians find more satisfying uses for courgettes (45%) and carrots (40%) than a green bean or a marrow?

And the celebs that veggies wouldn't mind sharing their satisfying courgette with? Clueless star Alicia Silverstone recieved FOUR times as many votes as Baywatch babe Pamela Anderson. While Tobey Maguire of Spiderman fame was a clear winner with the ladies - he received 42% of the votes.

When it comes to getting hot under the collar veggies choose a tasty Indian - all that spice clearly provides full sensory stimulation. But in the morning vegetarians find they feel a bit fruity and enjoy a mouthful of juice rather than a handful of nuts.

Perhaps the biggest revelation of all, more vegetarians find ultimate satisfaction in the succulent delights of a big juicy banana (34%) followed by an extra large veggie sausage with a little sauce on the side (24%). We were quite shocked to find that only 20% peaked at the prospect of savouring the juicy flesh of a perfect peach.

This survey has given us a real feel for the preferences of vegetarians and aroused appetites all around the country - just in time for The Vegetarian Society to provide Seven Days of Satisfaction for National Vegetarian Week gets going. Join us in our pursuit of pleasure.
