Is Glastonbury The Holy Grail for vegetarian visitors?
Somerset town goes head to head with Britain’s biggest cities for
title ‘Best UK destination for vegetarians’
Glastonbury has been short-listed
for The Vegetarian Society Award for ‘Best
UK destination for vegetarians’. Members of the public nominated
the place they feel has the most to offer vegetarian visitors, with Glastonbury,
Edinburgh, Manchester and Brighton gaining the most nominations.
Kerry Bennett of The Vegetarian Society commented: “Glastonbury
is one of my all time favourite destinations – my last visit was
especially memorable for a particularly good veggie breakfast - although
it ended up being more like lunch once we’d um-ed and ah-ed over
the great selection of veggie friendly eateries to choose from. I can’t
imagine there’s anywhere else with more veggie cafés per
square mile!”
The judging process is now underway with destinations scoring points
for accessible tourist information about vegetarian friendly eateries,
guesthouses and hotels - as well as the actual quantity and quality of
provision for vegetarians. Results will be announced at The Vegetarian
Society Awards on 28th October 2004.
