National Acclaim for Bristol’s Café Maitreya
At The Vegetarian Society Awards
Easton eaterie,
Café Maitreya, was named last night as the nation’s
top gourmet vegetarian restaurant. The announcement was made at the annual
Vegetarian Society Awards in London, where Bristol’s home-grown
talent swept to victory, beating last year’s winner Quince and
Medlar, as well as The Gate – a London restaurant that counts Madonna
and the McCartneys amongst its clientele.
The tough competition
also included Manchester Food and Drink Festival Restaurant of the
Year,
Greens, run by TV chef Simon Rimmer, Brighton’s
Terre á Terre and Edinburgh’s well known venue, David Bann
Restaurant.
Tina Fox, Chief Executive of The Vegetarian Society, commented:
“
Café Maitreya really impressed the judges. The menu was exciting,
the food exquisite, the atmosphere mellow and relaxed. Overall, the attention
to detail could not be beaten. Bristolians should be proud to be home
to a restaurant that offers such high class vegetarian food.”
The prestigious
award was presented to Rob Booth from Café Maitreya
at a glamorous ceremony in London’s Magic Circle last night.
