September 2004The Vegetarian Society celebrates Manchester Food and Drink Festival & World Vegetarian Day with a Fungus ForayOn October the 1st The Vegetarian Society, based in Altrincham, will be enjoying a double celebration as the launch of the Manchester Food and Drink Festival coincides with World Vegetarian Day. As an official ‘Friend’ of the festival, and the only organisation in the world with privileged permission to harvest wild mushrooms in the National Trust’s beautiful Dunham Park, The Vegetarian Society is uniquely placed to choose October 1st for a fungus foray. Mushroom hunters will learn how to find nature’s finest food under the expert eye of Dr Patrick Harding, the vegetarian author of best seller ‘How to Identify Edible Mushrooms’. Foragers will spend the rest of the weekend learning to turn their finds into a fabulous vegetarian feast in recognition of World Vegetarian Day. The Society’s Cordon Vert School will also be holding a Creative Gourmet Weekend as part of the Festival. The weekend workshop takes place from the 8th-10th October and covers advanced pastry techniques and gourmet dinner party dishes. The workshop costs £270 or £320 if accommodation is required.
