By George! Last year The Vegetarian Society named Brighton the ‘Best UK destination for vegetarians’. This year one of Brighton’s notable establishments, The George on Trafalgar Street, has been shortlisted for the accolade of ‘Best provision for vegetarians in a pub or pub chain’. The pub is no stranger to The Vegetarian Society, which has heard good reports about its vegetarian grub consistently for several years. In fact The George won the Society’s award for ‘Best Pub’ in 2002. The George faces competition from national chain J.D.Wetherspoon, Glasgow bar Mono, and Manchester’s fleet of Marble Brewery pubs. Dave Marks, a Vegetarian Society member commented: “The great food at The George pub is one of the reasons why I holiday in Brighton!” The pub will be visited by mystery diners as part of the judging process. The winner of the award will be announced at an exclusive ceremony aboard The Cutty Sark in London on Thursday 27th October.
