of special National Vegetarian Week menus in all Palace of Westminster
dining
rooms next week. The House of Commons catering department are once
again actively participating in this week-long initiative. The Vegetarian
Society
praises their enthusiasm and efforts.
Sir Paul McCartney said:
“ What could be better than enjoying great tasting food that is not only
good for your health, but also far better for the planet and the creatures
that live with us upon it?”
The Vegetarian Society’s chief executive, Tina
Fox, commented:
“
Whilst it is a privilege and a pleasure to enjoy fantastic food in exalted
company, the real purpose of this dinner was to make a timely point
to MPs that food labelling is an important issue, and that a legal definition
of the word ‘vegetarian’ would make life easier and safer
for consumers and the food industry alike. The Vegetarian Society is
very grateful to our patrons Sir Paul McCartney and Rose Elliot MBE
for supporting us on this matter.” Tina also thanked Ian Cawsey
MP for hosting the event.
Former Labour MP
Tony Banks, soon to go into the House of Lords enthusiastically endorsed
the link with the House of Commons and said: “This is
the latest and very positive development in the political campaign
to promote the vegetarian cause in our society. I look forward to an
expansion of such partnership projects with other government bodies,
industry and schools throughout our country.” Diners enjoyed a specially prepared menu of:
