The World Vegetarian
Congress (www.vegsoc.org/congress) has taken place every two years since
1908. The aim of the congress is to publicise and develop interest in
the vegetarian diet and give vegetarians from different cultures an opportunity
to meet together to explore new ideas -- as well as being a celebration
of vegetarianism.
The first ever
National Vegetarian Day took place in 1991. The following year the event
grew into a whole week following requests for a longer period from caterers
and this vital awareness week was established. Since then, the Week has
become one of the most important dates in the calendar of the UK's food
industry. Visit www.vegsoc.org/nvw to find out what happened during NVW2001.
