National Vegetarian Week 24th - 30th May 2004
The Mushroom Bureau joins The Vegetarian Society to
celebrate National Vegetarian Week 2004
Get ready to munch on mushrooms and feast on fungi! For
the third year running, the Mushroom Bureau is supporting National Vegetarian
Week.
Did you
know…?
- Around 1,000lbs of mushrooms are sold in every average sized supermarket
each week
- Mushrooms are full of nutrients, particularly B vitamins, potassium, magnesium,
selenium, copper and zinc.
- Some types of mushroom, such as oyster and shitake, boost the immune system
and help lower cholesterol.
- Mushrooms are a perfect alternative to meat in recipes that call for a certain
type of ‘chew’ and intense savoury flavour.
It’s no wonder they’re
so popular with vegetarians!
The Vegetarian Society is pleased to announce that the Mushroom Bureau
has developed a selection of brand new recipes in celebration of National
Vegetarian Week 2004. The new gourmet and store-cupboard recipes will
be featured on the Mushroom Bureau website: www.mushroom-uk.com from
March 1st. The Bureau also has a free recipe booklet ‘Mushrooms…vegetarian
and vegan’.
