PROJECTS AND CAMPAIGNS

The Vegetarian Society is an educational charity so we don’t organise demonstrations or get involved in political party campaigns, but we do work in many different ways to promote understanding and respect for vegetarian lifestyles.

Environment
Our environment campaign focuses on the ways that vegetarianism can help reduce your environmental impact. Going and staying vegetarian can help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, conserve water and land and preserve important eco systems. To find out more read these pages and find out ‘why it’s green to go vegetarian

Christmas
One of the most common questions meat-eaters ask vegetarians is “but what do you have for Christmas dinner?” Well, apart from Turkey, it could be more or less anything, so each year we promote exciting new recipes to the press and offer free guides to anyone unsure of how to cater for veggies at Christmas.

Fishconceptions
This educational campaign focuses on the common misconception that vegetarians eat fish. We don’t and these pages give more information on what we are doing to get that message out to the catering industry as well as the general public.

Political Programme
Manufacturers, caterers and retailers often label food ‘suitable for vegetarians’, but what does this mean? In law, very little! The Vegetarian Society wants to see an enforceable, legal definition for the term vegetarian. Follow the link to see how we are working towards this aim.
National Vegetarian Week
Our annual celebration of all things vegetarian usually takes place just before the late May Bank Holiday. As the biggest week in the UK vegetarian calendar, NVW includes all sorts of special events, activities and promotions, backed up by a national press campaign reaching millions of people across the country.
