World Health Organisation classifies processed meats as carcinogens.

The World Health Organisation has today released a report which has classified processed meats such as bacon, sausages and ham as carcinogenic. The report also states unprocessed red meats are ‘probably carcinogenic’ but there is only limited evidence.  Lynne Elliot, Chief Executive at the Vegetarian Society, said: "Millions of people across the UK enjoy meat-free meals – even if just a couple of times a week...... read more here

On Friday 11 September the cookery school’s Principal Tutor Alex Connell will be demonstrating delicious veggie dishes – if you are heading to the festival you can see him at the ‘What’s cooking stage’ at 12:30.  

Response to Daily Mail article - How three women ruined their health by giving up meat

The Daily Mail published an article entitled “Hair loss, chronic exhaustion and even mental breakdowns: How three women ruined their health by giving up meat.” We felt there were several issues that warranted a response from the Vegetarian Society. In the Vegetarian Society’s view the piece was in many instances inaccurate and in essence misleading and scientific evidence runs counter to the author’s stance. Read our response here.

Should I eat meat? The Big Health Dilemma

Tonight the BBC’s Horizon programme is asking the question ‘Should I eat meat? – The Big Health Dilemma.’ The Horizon programme’s pre publicity says that in the first episode Dr Michael Mosley seeks to establish the truth about meat. Are those barbecue favourites like burgers and sausages really that bad? Should we all go vegetarian instead?
